one man's trash

Jan Cumps
Jan Cumps over 1 year ago

I found abandoned electronics in my street today, and took it with me. Becoming a hoarder Slight smile.

I don't know what it is. Looks either alarm or telephone related.

From 94, looking at the PCB marking and ICs. A few more photos:

I usually leave those things in the trash where they belong. But this has some nice connectors, heatsinks, transformators and relays. Maybe some good transistors ...

Disposable ink jet printers used to be a hobbyist goldmine.

Do you say "used to be" because the parts are no longer interesting or because no one has printers anymore?

LOL Both. Also I think most printer mfgs design their own servo drives with encoders vs use an off the shelf stepper motors.

Plus in ontario e-waste is no longer collected as trash, so I never see them on the curb anymore.

When I lived in Menlo Park, CA, I would see printers (and bread makers!) on the curb all the time.

I never picked them up, though. Every time I saw a printer, I thought of something I heard Adam Savage say once: "Printers are a great source of springs." (Although, I think he was referring more to laser printers, but still.)

I did take a record player once that I intended to turn into a rotating platform for product photography. It ended up back on the curb when I moved.
