Here, I'm running my rendition of nyan-cat into a CRT, the audio is being passed through the video feed, which yes, causes feedback.
A couple of potentiometers on the top allow for pitch bending, and volume control. I'll add more features, like timing, and envelope control at some point.
The lines on screen are the tones being transmitted. I have found putting an actual image on the screen difficult, as there is no documentation for the CRT,
and I'm not sure about the number of lines, in x,y. It literally just says "B/W CCTV monitor" on the back. no MFG or anything.
It also has zero bass. I tried doing "smoke on the water" but it was terrible.

By filling the screen with lines, you might be able to count them, or see how many there are per inch with a tape rule stuck to the screen and a magnifying glass. The ratio looks like the usual (at that…

By filling the screen with lines, you might be able to count them, or see how many there are per inch with a tape rule stuck to the screen and a magnifying glass. The ratio looks like the usual (at that time) of 4:3, allowing for the slight downward angle of the camera. A fascinating project, you'll be wanting a colour CRT next!

You've triggered a long-forgotten part of my memory...  In the early days of BBC Microcomputer ownership I used a very second-hand colour CRT display as a monitor. It had originally been used as the display in an electronic version of an arcade fruit machine With a still picture of not much contrast it was just possible to make out the burnt-in 'shadow' of the three reels. I had to build a finger-proof case around it when the children arrived.

good call. RN, the lines are all tones and timing sequences. once I figue out the dimensions, I'd like to make the sounds of images. or rather see if I can make music by driving various images to the screen at different rates. prolly need a better mcu at that point.
