2024 Solar Eclipse

DAB
DAB over 1 year ago

As some of you know, we have a Solar Eclipse coming in April.

Theoretically, it will pass directly over my house.

That said, I only expect a 40% chance of having a break in the clouds to see it.

If conditions are good, I will probably film the event and have my telescope set up to see the details during totality.

A couple of years ago, we had a 95% totality that was very cool to watch.

I am interested in hearing if anyone else is planning to travel to see the eclipse.

If you going to be near my location, you can certainly come and join me during the event.

Even when partly, and cloudy, it can be an interesting event. I did an experiment during the 2015 one, with a microcontroller, and a light sensor: Capturing the 2015 eclipse with a TI Hercules Launc…

I’m traveling to the St. Louis area and making a week(end) of it with my family and my brother’s family. We are staying west of St Louis; about 3 hour drive from totality. Planning to check the weather…

Lots of local schools are giving students the day off. Presumably, so they can't be liable if they burn their eyeballs staring at the eclipse....

My wife wants to take a long drive to see the eclipse. Since all lodging in its "total" path has been sold out for months, I tell her absolutely "no problem" we can take a tent and sleeping bags. Us "boys" did it in scouts and at least once a year since then. None of the ladies go with us on tent trips. Hmmmmm, not sure how this will turn out.

I’m traveling to the St. Louis area and making a week(end) of it with my family and my brother’s family. We are staying west of St Louis; about 3 hour drive from totality. Planning to check the weather the night before and plan accordingly. I used our Canon 60D and a filter to photograph the 2017 one from St Louis.

We are planning to visit friends in the Cleveland area. Should be fun, haven't seen them in a few years.

My birthplace is right on the centerline.  Much of my extended family still lives there so I will enjoy visiting - as long as they don't talk too much at the wrong time!

Very cool... What's often forgotten about is the associated temperature drop. Small but noticeable.

Yes, even if it is cloudy, I should still be able to record the time of totality.

I can offer my backyard as a campsite if you need one.
