Maybe there should be a course in how to efficiently leverage the vast resources available on the internet. And how to effectively stay abreast of important and relevant new technology and new physics.

Every place I have worked mandated some extra courses. I had one high tech job that required me to spend one day every week learning or taking relevant courses. It was important and relevant since I was expected to contribute in the new field of fiber optics.

    You were lucky.

I mostly had to do on the job training in my extra hours.
