Winter Scavenger Hunt Quiz - surprise win

shabaz
shabaz over 1 year ago

Having subscribed to Farnell e-mail for offers etc., there was an e-mail earlier in the year. It was about a Winter quiz - I don't often enter, but gave it a shot. It was a multiple-choice quiz, rated by attempts or speed to answer correctly, plus a written answer to the final question (I can't recall how I answered!).

It was surprising to win a couple of really nice prizes. I wanted to thank Farnell and element14 for these gifts.

One of the prizes was a pair of Apple noise-canceling headphones, which is great because I lent my old Bose pair to a friend and never got them back! They are extremely helpful on flights, so now I'm looking forward to traveling again.

I also received a Multicomp dual soldering station with integrated heater tips and hot-tweezers, which is not pictured here since the box is currently unopened. It's a very decent soldering station, but by coincidence, I purchased a soldering station just last month. This prize will go to either a local school or (if they say they don't need it) an Amateur Radio group in Shropshire.

Thank you, Farnell and element14. It's a good reminder to subscribe and enter competitions.

Congrats Shabaz. So fitting that the prize included 'replacement' headphones.

    Very nice prize.

I was also just surprised to win a Bose speaker in a scavenger hunt.

However at delivery time UPS left a note on my door indicating they wanted to charge me $157 in shipping fees, which I was not prepared for so I asked element14 to redirect the package to someone who would be able to swallow the shipping fee. I guess easy come - easy go...Relaxed

I am curious.  Was that a straight shipping fee or a fee for customs' brokerage?

Probably both - the note didn't specify. The only time I seem to get nailed with brokerage fees is from the USA.

    So much for free trade.

I think when they send stuff from the US via UPS and choose one of the cheaper options like ground us Canadians get dinged with high brokerage charges from UPS.  I also wonder if our government's revenue agency also wanted to collect on the taxes.  Either way, a bit of a bummer.

    Hi Doug.

I just heard about this shipping issue from one of my team members. Sorry! You should never have to pay for duties or fees. We are working on it and once solved will get the prize re-delivered to you.
