Hi everyone!

Hi everybody, I've joined the team behind the element14 community and I just wanted to say a quick hello.

I have an important project right now which is helping make webinars, on-demand videos, challenges and the site as a whole be the best that they can be. I'm eager to to help this community continue to be an informative, enriching and entertaining(!) place to be.

Less importantly perhaps I am also experimenting at home with smart lightbulbs and motion sensors currently. A hallway where people are coming and going seems like a natural use case but I want to see if I can get one working in another area like the kitchen where I'm sometimes not spending a lot of time (eg. making a coffee) but I'm also not moving around a lot (eg. standing in front of the coffee machine). It's probably just a case of me looking at how long the lights stay on when movement is detected and how often movement is required for continuous light etc, but a fun lil project nonetheless.

JoBatcliffe🦇 Welcome to the Community. Good luck on your project. We have something like what you describe in a couple of our warehouses and I despise them. The lights turn themselves off while I'm working…

JoBatcliffe🦇 Welcome to the Community.  Good luck on your project.  We have something like what you describe in a couple of our warehouses and I despise them.  The lights turn themselves off while I'm working on a piece of equipment.  Very annoying. Laughing

Our building was recently upgraded with occupancy sensors in every room and hallway. I use small task lights over my bench and desk instead of  the overhead lights. As soon as I open my door the overhead lights would come on. Fortunately they are programable so the first thing I did was download their app on my phone and set the sensor to "Manual". It still pops on once in a while (line noise?)  but mostly my overheads are off all the time. The opposite might work for you.

md_steve I don't think our occupancy sensors are so cool as to have an app.  My guess is that they are simple PIR sensors.  For one building, I should probably look a little harder for the lighting control center.  For another, I know that they are individual lights with integrated sensors.  No app for those as the guy that installed them also dislikes the "feature". If it had an app, he'd be using it.
(Auto-OFF after a set time is a county mandate.  We have to have these types of lights in any space the county classifies as primarily a warehouse.  Regretably, it's also our repair bay.)

Bummer. It's a shame these decisions are always made by someone that's too high up to see individual circumstances and adjust for ground truths.
