Sneaky spammers

Be careful not to be dragged into what appears to be an 'honest' request.

I'm seeing a growing increase in spam posts where they appear to be "honestly" asking a question, and then in a reply, or in part of the question they're linking to a blog post on an external website, as an advertisement for buying products on that website (where it's a blog post and not a direct 'shop' link it's a blog post on their 'shop' site).

It's not clear if they're using an LLM to generate the post, sometimes it may not be the case, but usually, the topic of the post is more closely related to the blog post than it is the genuine question it's about.

Stay vigilant, and hit that report abuse/spam option that might be hidden under 'more'.

Thank you to those who do report spam; your efforts do not go unnoticed.

I've noticed this happening recently as links in new comments on old blog posts of mine and have been reporting it.

pro tip :) - if a member seems to ask you something more appealing/enthousiastic than what you are used to in this community, check if they have 10 points. They aim to please.

Part of the reason I don't like AI is that it has increased deception, impersonation, and even fraud.
I received a call ("participate in a survey and at the end win a smartwatch"), for 10s I thought it was a person, then I gave an ambiguous answer to a question and the robot's reply was formulated in a suspicious way, like and when he would have taken phrases from several newspaper pages.

A lot of these spam posts are more so scraped from sites rather than even AI-generated.
