Tinkering with some audio DSP on my Pico2. Frequency shifting was one of the first methods to help suppress/reduce oscillation/howling in PA systems. Rod Elliott has few detailed blogs on the subject…

scottiebabe  After a bit of reflection, most of the Engineers I know had a very circuitous path to what we would consider to be "an engineering job".  Almost every one of them worked in the field and many did a stint in Sales.  I think the root of the problem is that companies want entry level Engineers with 10 years of experience.  And I don't think it's just Engineers that are experiencing this issue.  Just my 2-cents.

I don't know if this is still an issue, but when I started my career in Engineering, the markets were very volatile.  As I was wrapping up my education in Phoenix Arizona, the local job market was so incredibly tight as Motorola (the major employer in the area) had just had a pretty massive layoff.  I sent out dozens of resumes, but did not receive a single response.  I then shifted to California companies and finally started getting some responses.  I took a job with a large military focused electronics company in California.  I started as a senior technician and immediately discovered that more established engineers (10+ years of experience) were getting all of the design work.  The one area that seemed to be open was computer programming.  So that is what I focused my career direction on.

With engineering ever evolving with new advancements, there will always be niche openings, where new graduates, with some exposure to new technologies, are on a more level field with the more experience engineers.  Find these niches and focus on building skills in these areas.

I am using a Hilbert transform in the digital domain to achieve the same result

A quick sample, I am twiddling the frequency shift between 0 Hz and 500 Hz

There are at least 3 issues plaguing the technical job market:

    1. The art of finding a job has morphed and nobody seems to know the new formula. Resumes are non existent. Keyword searches in talent databases are gamed to the point of being useless. Interviews have little value when none of the selected interviewees are suitable.
    2. Institutions are stuck in the dark ages in preparing students for life in the fast lane.
    3. Recent generations of graduates are fed so much propaganda from all directions, they often feel entitled to coast into a cushy job that is mostly a vacation in disguise.

Enough with the soap box, What are everyone's New Years resolutions?

I have a non-binding initiative to dig out and complete more of my bucket list projects. Slight smile
