New year events to kickstart your year!

What's the February E14 project competition topic ? 

There's no set topic for the next E14 competition just yet, but with the Holidays competition concluding soon I think the time will soon be right to start talking about the next challenge. Please feel free to discuss potential themes or message me with ideas, my DMs are always open.

Fresh from holidays time off , here maybe some ideas to inspire E14 topics for the northern hemisphere:

How about "Beat the Winter Blues" as a Winter ( February - March ) 2025 competition.  A project that makes people smile, happy, or inspired. 

How about "Spring into Spring 2025" as a spring 2025 competition.  An outdoorsy project: electronics for gardening, pest protection, environmental aids, outdoor lighting , lawn maintenance & lighting, etc.

Get a Spring in your Step - a competition for mobility wearables or assistance.

Yes! I can see either of these interpretations of Spring Intro Spring being a good theme :D

Spring Clean - make use of some old stuff lying around or revisit unfinished projects

Spring Forward ( with Fall Back in Autumn ) -  kinetic projects, Rube Goldberg / chain reaction machines 

Spring Time - timers, clocks

Simple Harmonic Motion Generators (for those who remember the Cirkit catalogue in the 80's)

I definitely do think a challenge based around completing unfinished projects or using things already laying around would be really interesting. Reminds me of the TV show Scrapheap Challenge (Junkyard Wars in the US).

Whether we do this for spring or not, I really want to try this at some point.

I have the feeling that there could be some very unusual/interesting/frightening stuff in the cupboards/sheds/garages of the community members here.

This reminds me that there was some discussion on here a while back about some sort of an Internet connected chain reaction machine project. Not sure if you've spotted that yet, or have any thoughts on how it could work.

'The Great Egg Race' in the 80's was another good one. Both for the original rubber band powered  'eggmobiles' and then the later problem-solving builds that followed on. 

I always wished that they had done a similar series but over a longer build duration with a bit more 'refined' end result. Especially if you consider the likes of what some of the hot rod and custom bike scenes were managing to produce from scrapyards from the 30's onwards. Also some of the projects that have been made out of recycled timber from pallets, old furniture etc. in order to create new equipment enclosures.

A good way to get set up for more project work is to build instrumentation for the lab. A power supply, an electronic load, a frequency counter, an inductor winder - there are lots of kit that a lab could use. What instrumentation is on your list to build?

I have meant to repurpose a computer power supply into a bench top power supply.
