ChatGPT designs an Audio Amplifier

It is getting smarter every day, the schematic made me smile.

Could you clarify what type of circuit you'd like? For example:

  1. Type of Circuit: Oscillator, amplifier, power supply, etc.
  2. Specific Components: Op-amp, microcontroller, 555 timer, etc.
  3. Voltage Levels: Supply voltage and expected output.
  4. Purpose: Any specific functionality you'd like to achieve.

Let me know, and I can create a schematic tailored to your needs!

Here’s a simple schematic for a basic audio amplifier using a common operational amplifier like the LM386, which is popular for audio applications:

Components:

  1. IC: LM386
  2. ...
  3. Power Supply: 9V DC

Circuit Description:

  1. Input: Audio signal is fed through a coupling capacitor (C1) to remove any DC component.
  2. ...
  3. Decoupling: A capacitor (C3) filters noise in the power supply.

Would you like me to refine this or provide the actual schematic drawing?

Adafruit just posted a blog about using LLMs in hardware design

Asked google gemini to design an lm386 audio amplifier:

It's going to be a pretty screwed up world - how many errors can you see in the picture ?

    I gave up at three.

Well remember....  AI neither loves you nor hates you...
    However:-
You and I are made of atoms that it thinks could be used better elsewhere!

The fun part is pitting one AI engine against another... Relaxed

Even if they miss the obvious.

Anyhow, whether it's right or wrong it made me think (pays to have a good healthy dose of skepticism). In my case, it tests my knowledge and understanding of circuit design when evaluating what it has come up with. I can only get better through it - it's a new way of self teaching.

Is it me or did it really miss the 12 pin LM286 and the resistor plugged into the plastic of the breadboard ?

TI don't seem to admit to such a thing ?

Perfect location for a dip part, shorting the pins, too many to count, its quite funny to look at all the mistakes.

I only see 3 components that might  be properly inserted into the breadboard, although none are in the correct position. non-existent chip, idiotic component values and is that a relay?
