Seeking Your Opinion About a element14 Image

rscasny
rscasny 7 months ago

I'm putting something together for the element14 team, which is part of one of our internal planning initiatives.

I'm trying to develop an image that simply describes visually plus a few words what element14 Community is on a people level.

Since I'm not an artist, designer, etc. I tried to put together for rough images.

If you have the time, I'd appreciate you voting or leaving a comment.

Many thanks.

Randall

Here are the images. Scroll down to vote. Thanks.

I like how the scope is plugged into a drawing of the vehicle rather than the vehicle itself...

Perhaps try an image that leans a bit more toward making / prototyping than test & measurement / repair / college course type imagery. Also as we are mostly an on-line community, then perhaps avoid showing…

I don't really like any of the pictures that much but 4 is the nearest.

The first 2 are classic bland corporate stock images with "engineers" who are too young and obviously not really working.

3 is a bit weird, and the scope is ancient.

4 has a load of gear and its nice to see some old stuff but there isn't any new stuff. I like the words better.

It isn't a good picture angle and its not obvious that they are working on the same thing.

How about more of a collage showing different people in different settings collaborating somehow - because that's really what E14 is about and how it works.

Then you can avoid deciding if the girl or the boy gets to be in the hot seat (pic1) , or if one of the characters looks a bit odd (pic3) or some of the gear is a bit 1980s (pic4).

The first two captions could be for a bank or law firm with the change of one word - no 4 makes a much better attempt to hit the E14 spot.

I voted #1 and I strongly dislike #2 as it gave me a feeling of two guys "mansplaining" electronics to the clueless blonde in between them. Note that I know that's not your intent, it's just my own reaction to the image.

Hehe :) - I interpreted that one completely opposite. The human brain is an odd vehicle.

If to pick among the 4 pictures provided, I root for picture 1 as I believe it gives the best representation of what element14 is. Though the writings from picture 2 could also be bought in for additional context Slight smile

that's a good one - especially considering the complication level of some modules (requiring level after level of opaque software frameworks to properly operate)...

EDIT - the first generated one (it seems my answer was not placed in the place I thought it will land)

Interesting how they are getting that waveform off the paper printout of the car.

We don't do much Zoom (or perhaps I just don't get the invites...) but could do something like a webinar session demonstrating an identifiable component on a LCD screen in the background, with the actual component  being worked on in the foreground as part of a prototype design, with instrumentation, tools, 3D printed parts, (cats), in the image.

A bit of a modern take on the 2D pencil concept sketch transitioning to a full colour 3D reality model.

You could then annotate around the outside with reinforcing text like, learning, road tests, challenges, collaboration... etc.

This could transition nicely into a video promo as well, with the flow from concept to completed projects.

I don't like any of them as they picture college or a corporate image, and sadly this is not what we are about. Our desk, are never clean and tidy and they are dressed way too nice (hell right now I have a T-Shirt with a cotton unpressed long sleeve shirt (slept in both and no bottoms) this is my normal cave attire. Show some real people.

Not sure the title quite matches the result though ?

"a group of students of mixed gender and race, collaborating in an electronics lab"
