Duct tape. The good stuff ($7 a roll now).

We used to call it "100 mile an hour tape" in the Airborne (paratroopers) because we would use it on the outside of the aircraft and it still needed to be there when we jumped.

I also love the 3M foam tape - but not as much as duct tape. I use that foam tape in lieu of real fasteners regularly. Warning: It does take off drywall paper.

I think the modern speed tape is now referred to as 600MPH tape.

Probably had to rename it for the jet age

0.25" magnetic recording tape. I enjoy attempting to restore old tape recorders. I had a pocket wire recorder once, after a series of failed attempts to repair it I threw it away. I bet it would be worth millions of pounds today if I'd kept it.
