Time for a spring clean? How's your workbench looking?

Whether you're going for minimalism with a tiny desk , or you're deciding to finally get rid of that altoids tin of resistors, spring time can be an opportunity for a bit of a spruce up and a clean.

Are you perhaps considering a project to help keep your desk tidy? (Hmm, that sounds like a good idea)

Or are you looking to pick up some new equipment? I realised that I haven't checked out kickstarter for a while and that used to be a good place for something new and innovative.

What's your plan? Same old, same old? Or time for something new?

For me, I need an actual workbench!

  • My workbench is a disaster.  My small soldering station gave up the ghost so now I'm upgrading to a rework station I won on e14.  MP740131.  The old station took up a little more space than the soldering pencil on the right.

    I like the idea of having this on a shelf at the back of the workbench - which would require removing the pegboard full of tools - and pulling the bench out further from the wall, which requires moving the shop light.  Of course, that could give me a better space for for the scope and function generator - but then where do I put all the hand tools?  And all the power outlets?

    I've also been looking at some woodworking plans that would have bin arrays on vertical draw out shelves.  It's not as conducive for browsing, but like everyone else... there just isn't that much wall space.

    I would put the hot air station somewhere else, because it won't be used at the same time as the soldering station, plus, the fat hose and large tool handle take up a ton of desk space (at least it does on mine). Besides, I wanted different tools near the hot air station, so I reckon it makes sense to dedicate a smaller area elsewhere for all the hot air related tasks.
