Time for a spring clean? How's your workbench looking?

Whether you're going for minimalism with a tiny desk , or you're deciding to finally get rid of that altoids tin of resistors, spring time can be an opportunity for a bit of a spruce up and a clean.

Are you perhaps considering a project to help keep your desk tidy? (Hmm, that sounds like a good idea)

Or are you looking to pick up some new equipment? I realised that I haven't checked out kickstarter for a while and that used to be a good place for something new and innovative.

What's your plan? Same old, same old? Or time for something new?

For me, I need an actual workbench!

anniel747 ,misaz  The two of you are both younger and more capable than I am.  When you get older and start having vision and manual dexterity issues - congestion gets to become hazardous on a "workbench".  The other thing that is not obvious in the blurry picture is that the parts are not organized by project.  There is lots of space for storage Smile.

Indeed, I keep the pre-heater next to the hot air station, along with a few dedicated tools such as large flat gripping tweezers to hold the hot board, plus safety glasses to protect the face a bit from the pre-heater heat, plus a little kitchen timer to know how long things are being heated (easier to view that than the timer on the hot air tool) and so on. Also a thermocouple temperature meter!

I would put the hot air station somewhere else, because it won't be used at the same time as the soldering station, plus, the fat hose and large tool handle take up a ton of desk space (at least it does on mine). Besides, I wanted different tools near the hot air station, so I reckon it makes sense to dedicate a smaller area elsewhere for all the hot air related tasks.

Exactly. Luxury. There is plenty of free space and even better, it is at near edges.

it can be installed locally and for free, so the only cost would be the computer running

Like kmikemoo my workbench is also currently a disaster.  Funny how life can get away from you.  I had carpal tunnel release surgery on both hands that put me out of commission for a while (at least a good excuse Smile).  I'm currently traveling but I took a pic of the current state of my workbench from the overhead camera in my workroom.  Little grainy because I can't turn on the lights remotely and the capture is low res.  One of my first projects is definitely spring cleaning but it will probably take me all summer...
