A Rare Question - Exploring Opportunities in Europe

Catalyst

Hello,

I'm a graduate electrical engineer currently exploring the possibility of working in Europe.

I’m very keen to understand the current demand for electrical engineers across Europe.

I would really appreciate hearing from locals and professionals already working in the field.

Some specific areas I’m curious about:

  • Which countries or regions have the strongest demand for electrical engineers?
  • Are there particular industries (e.g., power systems, embedded systems, automation, renewable energy) experiencing significant growth?
  • What are the common challenges for foreign engineers seeking work in Europe (e.g., recognition of qualifications, language, visas)?
  • Any tips for entering the European job market or companies that are known to welcome international engineers?

THANKS

You don't mention if you're a fresh graduate, but if you are, I don't think you can expect to find a job so easily in Europe (or anywhere internationally for that matter) since orgs will be reluctant to hire someone who isn't a citizen or from an EU member state (simply because of the difficulty with hiring laws - it's often not worth the effort).

A normal route is to work for a multi-national org that has a presence in your local country, and then make it be known that you're willing to relocate, they may consider it at some point after you've proven yourself after a few years perhaps.

If you're a fresh graduate I think its unlikely. I don't think many engineering firms would be willing to pay a likely 5-figure sum to get someone at the start of their career a visa.

PLEASE spend some time in the Repair industry before doing design work

then you mite see why some products are more reliable or better quality
