Question of the Month: When you’re under time pressure, what’s the first design step you’re most likely to skip?

Sometimes you simply want to get that project done and out of the way, maybe it's at work or maybe it's personal (probably at work you don't get to skip anything, but who knows!?)

Bonus question: When you're feeling the pressure, which meal of the day do you typically skip?

You can have it cheap, you can have it work, or you can have it soon. Pick two. In this case I'm skipping budgeting. It still may not work, but at least it has a chance.

I don't simulate, I calculate. I don't model, I measure. However when AI gets good enough I might ask it to simulate or model.

I design with safety margins - I typically don't do a separate derating review.

Documentation doesn't get skipped, but it may be finalized later in the project.

I never skip layout optimization - probably a sign of OCD.

I sometimes skip making and derisk testing a proof-of-concept prototype - sometimes I regret this.
