Can't help you with a tested suggestion so I'm mainly offering empathy !
I work as a limited company so I've had to do MTD VAT returns for years but thanks to the good old House of Lords the HMRC were obliged to accept bridging software to Excel or similar and that's how I do it.
(Using CHM Software Ltd at £8.50 per return (no lock in, no contract)).
There is no timing yet for the next stage to hit me so I'm hoping the Apocalypse comes first
