Thank you element14

I was tickled pink with the recent swag package I received.  It was more than enough... but then before I knew it, another package was sent my way.  This one an RPI400-US.

image

I pictured it here along with a Commodore 64 because the RPI400 reminds me of an earlier time when computers were embedded in keyboards.  This was the prevalent form factor when I cut my teeth and the possibilities excite me.  In fact, I am trying to come up with a project that might utilize both.  In other words a collab of sorts between the new kid on the block and the venerable granddaddy of the 8-bit era.  If any one has any ideas, I am all ears.

Thank you element14 and E14Alice  for this wonderful gift that bridges current technology with a previous time in tech that I am really fond of.

Thanks cstanton .  Imagine a parallel universe where the Spectrum was a tiny box with no keyboard and people had to scramble around looking for a Spectrum branded keyboard.  To be clear, this add on keyboard would still have the Chicklet buttons.

Whenever I see the 'pi in a keyboard' models from Raspberry Pi I always think back to the spectrum, commodore, amiga, atari. I think the form factor is understated, especially with how useful a keyboard is with these things.

Hope you enjoy it Slight smile

A tragic story... but I am happy to see that you got a disk drive in the end.

dang74  Laughing  Except that the tape drive for the Atari was a cassette player - that I knocked off the table and bent the drive axle.  I never could straighten it enough to get any of my programs back.  I just played cartridge games on it until the disk drives were available. Joy

I am leaning this way... I was thinking 1541 drive emulation... but I should evaluate tape as well to see which is easier to implement.  Thank you BigG for the link.

I do have an Atari (800XL) and there's definitely something very appealing in the form factor.

Indeed, I knew I couldn't be the only one that thought so.  I never had an Atari computer but from what I can tell it was more or less in the same league as the 64.

I like the way you are thinking.  Unfortunately, I don't have the time, talent or skills to cross-compile python to the 6510... one similar thing I could try is have the RPI400 act as a 1541 disk drive.

Thanks.  The FPGA based emulated option sounds interesting.
