How do you find what you're looking for on the element14 Community?

I let my intuition guide me in searching for interesting topics.

I have travelled a lot for work and pleasure.

Since my injury and heart attack, I am reluctant to travel due to all of the medications I am on.

My last trip was a disaster thanks to American Airlines, so I may not travel far again, which is a pity, because there are lots of places I would like to see.

That's true! I probably didn't explain it very well.

I mainly use email notifications to keep up with new content from the areas I'm already subscribed to. But when I have some free time, I usually browse around the Community and jump into different sections depending on what I'm interested in at the time, Raspberry Pi, microcontrollers, RoadTests, projects, etc.

So I'm sure I still miss plenty of interesting content, but notifications are more my way of keeping up with what I already follow rather than my only way of discovering things.

You're definitely at risk on missing out on content, unless you've clicked through everywhere on the Community to receive notifications?

When I'm looking for a specific post I've found useful before, I usually check my bookmarks first, just like kmikemoo mentioned. If I still can't find it, I'll use the search box or browse through the menus and categories until I get to what I'm looking for.

As for travelling, I've been outside my home country several times for holidays and sports. On one trip, I even took the opportunity to attend a job interview while I was already there, which turned out to be a nice bonus!

If I am looking for something specific... the search box at the top of the page.
If it's vaguely familiar, I might search my bookmarks.
For what's going on in the Community... I start with the email notifications.  Then I move to the Community Hub - What's New on elment14.  After that, it's the core home page.

Travelled out of country... All work related. Son of a sailor.  20 years US Army.  Travelled abroad for my civilian job.  I keep it in country these days.

I use the search box, but it often takes some creativity to zero in on what I'm looking for.

I travel for work - conferences, client meetings etc. or when I win a trip 

I mainly use the advanced search but often have to tweak the URL query manually to narrow down the results.

Knowing the serpauthor value for a user here helps enormously, as the drop down combo box allows you only to pick from the top 12 or so users and often the one you want, doesn't appear in the list to pick from, so you have to do it manually in the URL.

That said, there is some content that is very hard to find even when you know who wrote it and you know that it is definitely in there somewhere. I often encounter this when I want to reference existing related content in a forum comment.

I typically use the search box with varying results.  Next time, I’ll keep track of how it panned out and comment.  As for travelling I couldn’t vote with those options.  During my career I’ve lived and worked in Republic Of Ireland, France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Turkey and of course, mostly, the UK.  I feel I’m forgetting somewhere!  I don’t live abroad though and never felt the desire to really, so not a nomad.  Travel on holiday a fair bit and visited numerous countries.

Mostly I find interesting posts through the email notifications - if I'm looking for something specific I would use the search box.
