New Guy. Southern Utah

Hello online world. Name is Matt and I am brand new to this whole thing, I am paramedic in Southern Utah. I got interested in electrical engineering, guess I could say I've always been interested, by watching YouTube and wanting to build some senors for my garden. Hoping to use this site as a resource during this adventure. That's all i have for now. Feel free to message me.

    Welcome to the community.

What sort of sensors are you looking to build? What are they going to control?

I guess you have come to the right place to get answers.

Look forward to hearing more from you.

    Cheers

    Warren.

WarrenW Right now just trying to keep it simple: temperature, humidity, light, soil moisture. Eventually I would like to have it control watering, and motors that rise/lower green house plastic and or shade clothes as needed. Goal is to keep it simple right now

Upcycle It This design challenge highlighted an interesting Arduino based kit you might like looking into:  Seeed Studio Grove Start Kit for Arduino

    http://wiki.seeed.cc/Grove_Starter_Kit_v3/

I was looking at adding a more detailed humidity sensor though like: Grove - Temperature and Humidity Sensor Pro - Seeed Wiki

I haven't tried this kit or these sensors yet myself, but they look intriguing!

I think I gave you a link to the Vertical Farming Design Challenge in your status update as well.  If you see one of the members that had a great project and looks like something you want to play with, feel free to message them and ask them for information!

Awesome choice - so much info out there for them and great community support here as well.

I am no pro coder but I am currently working on interfacing some existing displays for sports events into a remote control (all arduino based) with LCD displays etc.

You may want to checkout the local Element14 dedicated page if you have not already. Arduino

I have zero experience in all this. I do have a basic understanding of electronics and coding tho. From my research I like the Arduino. Should be getting my first board here this week

What level of coding, electronics interfacing are you comfortable with.

You could try an Arduino or Raspberry Pi which are both excellent learning tools. Economical too.
