Cheap, silent electromechanical clock movement ideas

This idea is for 7 segment electromechanical clock faces.

Using thick grease as a way to smooth out movement of colored cylinders, which is colored half-black, I use a set of cheap 12V mini fans to turn the cylinder one way around with periodic activation to keep the clock segment activated.

Cylinders automatically return to original position upon power loss or segment turning off.

    By the way, this uses a brushless computer fan instead of brushed DC motors and spring is used to simulate the reverse rotation of the motor (it slowly winds the cylinder back to OFF position) to avoid using H-Bridge circuit.

     

    I do think there will be some problems in the actual implementation of this contraption, and I want to hear some feedback on it.

     

    Design details:

    The spring is connected to the shaft of the motor-cylinder combo, and is a rotational tension spring in shape of ø or theta.

    The grease is applied to the spring and the fan itself. (Not the one you will find in a generic motor, the one you will find in something like waterproofed gear assembly or self-positioning booklights sold under the name "Flip-Lite")

    The motor/fan is running at 50% PWM at frequency of 1~10Hz.

    The cylinder is made out of hollowed out wood or plastic.

    Yes, but much silent and easier to make.

     

    (However this is not as efficient as the actual Staver display as it still needs to draw some power to keep those digits activated)

     

    The fan or the motor needs to run at 12V for approximately 3 seconds, in theory.

     

    I will post the diagram once I get this sorted out.
