Top 10 Members!

dixonselvan
dixonselvan over 7 years ago

I was searching for this list and finally found it! Yes, the top 10 Element14 community members as of April 2018. They truly deserve the spot. Do you have any thoughts on this? Let me know in the comment section below.

There are few others too down the ladder who are helping and I don’t want to disapoint you. This top 10 list is just a list, your help is always appreciated. Keep contributing.

Hi Dixon You will be most happy if you ignore the points and just enjoy the journey. Learning, participating, encouraging, asking questions, and answering the questions of others is where the real fun…

Dixon, as a matter of fact, (been away for a while for personal problems but my mood was always with the members of this community) I think you hear always by us almost the same comments to this discussion…

Here's the top 200.  It includes all members at level 5 and above.

Interesting that we have 270059 points separating 1 and 100.

I thought it would be much closer, so it's an interesting snapshot.

Out of curiosity I plotted the top 200, skipping to every 10th member to get a visual.  It surely takes a lot of time and effort to get into the top 20-25 and those that do are contributing high quality as well as quantity to the community. But there are any number of others on down the list whose contributions I have enjoyed greatly.

Yes, going through the list, I recognize an awful lot of the names from their contributions which I have read.

Now that we are on the topic of points. Maybe some experienced people can help me here?

How does this thing work? I have not managed to rack up any points in here it seems image

    Surely you mean badges ?

The points for each of the groups you've pasted above show how many points were in each group.

Yes I meant badges. So it means if you complete all the points you get the badge? If I got it correctly.

What does 6/19 and 6/15 mean though?

    Cheers

    snidhi

Explanation: 6/19 - Number of times you have completed the activity/ Number of times it is required to complete the mission and earn the badge. You need to like something 13 more times and vote 9 more times to earn the badge.

    Edited:

The above looks to be wrong! Please take Dave’s reply below.

...So it means if you complete all the points you get the badge? If I got it correctly.

No, 'Places' work a bit differently to 'Missions'.

Associated mission badges will appear in the badges section below the accumulated points score for that place.

(try completing the CodeBug mission to see how it works

Read through all 10 projects at

10 CodeBug Projects in 10 Days

and like two of them to earn the badge and then you should also see it appear in Places.)

What does 6/19 and 6/15 mean though?

it's the month/day you earned the points.

6/19 = 19th June, and you got +5 points for liking something

6/15 = 15th June, and you got +15 points for participating in a poll

With Missions you require to complete a set of specific tasks in order to earn the mission badge. e.g. the 11 tasks will earn you the CodeBug badge.

With Places, you just accumulate points for activities you do in that place. I'm not aware of any prizes for gaining a specific number of points in any given place however. It appears just to give you an overview of where you have been most active on the site.

The "You haven't earned any badges here" message is a bit confusing as it appears to imply that you can earn badges by accumulating points, however instead it just appears to be a place for displaying related mission badges.

Perhaps keep in mind that the Jive platform used to host the Element14 site can be configured in many different ways depending on the specific community requirements. The Places section is probably used slightly differently on other community sites compared with how it is used here on Element14.

I suspect you could base a task required for a Mission badge on the Place score in such a way that one task requires you to accumulated a specific number of activity points in that Place. Some sites may use this to encourage people to participate in areas which currently have a low amount of activity.

So does it mean that you can never collect a badge?

It just comes to you in some way if you have contributed enough in that group or something?

With mission badges, if you complete the set of tasks for that mission you get awarded with the badge in your user profile. So you can collect mission badges by going out and completing the tasks.

The only badges that appear in the Places activity section appear to be mission badges which have been related to that Place.

I've only got three mission badges that appear under places:

    • the 'CodeBug' badge under the 'Codebug' place
    • the 'micro:bit' badge under the BBC micro:bit place
    • the 'Support Helper Level 1' badge under the 'Feedback and Support' place

I'm still relatively new to the community site however, so there may be a few others which show up under places.

The points in the places activity section are awarded on general activities on the site such as replying to discussions, taking part in polls, etc. There is a page which outlines in detail what activities gain what amount of points and how many you can claim in one day:

Your Ranking: element14 Community Badges, Levels & Points

(select the 'Points for Activities' tab)

If you go to the top right of the browser page and open the drop down menu next to your name (to the left of the 'Create' drop down menu), then click on reputation and points, it should open up to a summary of your activities and missions. If you click on Missions on the left, it lists all the different badges that you can earn, and their points, and tracks how close you are to fulfilling those missions. If you click on the bottom right of each of the badges they turn over and reveal more details on the different activities necessary to earn those badges, and which ones you have already done. I hope that helps you snidhi - then it also becomes easy to see what courses are on offer, etc, and how you are progressing through them.

Thanks Nigel. yes I know how missions work. pretty simple. Got quite a few missions done actually early on.

My original question is only about the Badges which seem to work different from missions.

    Cheers
