Where have you seen religion meet technology?

I happened upon this tweet today which brought something I hadn't considered to my attention:

Effectively gamified 'prayer beads', almost like an augmented reality game but attempting to pull in religion as a motivator (where there's religion, there's money...)

 

Where have you seen religion and technology used together in a way you wouldn't expect? (and hopefully a bit beyond a neon lit jesus..)

  • Interesting electronic rosary beads.. : ) Many religions currently use the traditional ones I think, and all sorts of manual tricks to keep count. Sometimes the count is required, when someone promises to another they will pray a number of times for (say) some event.

    Also someone I worked with regularly did lots of support at the local church, primarily for weddings, so there could be automated slides/videos of photos or prayers being projected etc. This was pre-Raspberry-Pi, so a lot more difficult to shove audio/video around without expensive cabling etc.

    Also Islam has a complex system for prayer times, so there are electronic aids for that - also some days are celebrated based on moon phase, so requires an astronomer or calculated tables of dates.
