The dawn of 2016 is upon us all. 2015 has taken the technological expectations of a generation into a whole new realm. The advancements in micro technology has brought automation to the masses and has made not only micro controllers smaller but in some ways it has made the world smaller too. I have been fortunate to be surfing on the wave of this fast moving current and hope to keep riding that wave for a long time to come. For me 2015 introduced me to Element14, an introduction which has proved to have given me a new lease of life, a hobby and a place to go where people understand and share in my passion, thank you all!
I was lucky enough to have been involved in my first road test in 2015 and go into 2016 looking forward to a new beginning when I get started on the course in 'C' which I was fortunate to be selected for. I am bringing the new year in one one of the worlds most technologically advanced oil rigs separated from my friends and family, not a choice but not a position I was forced into either, I am lucky to be in the position I am in so I am thankful every day for the benefits that come with it. In 6 days I will return home and will have Christmas and New Year all over again, I will get to open my gifts and the most exciting gift will be the box that arrived from Element 14 which will herald the start of the course I have been gifted.
My drive in 2016 will be to enhance the lives of people less gifted than me. My ultimate goal will be to help those that have been unfortunate to have either lost their sight or maybe have never had the gift of being able to see the sun rise or set ever in their lives. To have a parent who has lost their sight I am only beginning to understand what that can mean and how we all take such a natural thing for granted. I frequently wish I could touch type and feel hindered by having to look at the keyboard, how selfish would that sound to a blind or partially sighted person? I would like to design gadgets that help people see without looking, ultrasonic and infrared technology will be my tools to make this possible. I watched the news in awe a few days ago when I watched a demonstration of an infrared brain scanner, portable and handheld which looks for clots. Such an easy gadget to make but the innovation to put this together, code it, test it and get it out there, to me, is the miracle. It was designed in 2013 but has recently started work with the UK air ambulance service.
May your god protect you, drive you and bring us all closer together in 2016.
