For the electronics industry, IoT, smart home and intelligent electronics become more and more popular amongst consumers. We are all guilty of enjoying the benefits of smart technologies and surround ourselves with them, to control certain aspects of our lives. In today’s day and age, we have smart thermostats with digitalised readings, voice activated lighting and speaker surround sounds; environmental detectors and sensors keep us safe and sense for riding levels of harmful gases, or simply activate HVAC systems when things get too warm or too cold. Everything we once used to have to monitor and action manually is slowly becoming automated to produce the ‘perfect’ living environment.
And it’s not just homes that we can see these electronic devices, its offices, shops, factories and everything in between.
The CamdenBoss Room Sensor Range and 1500 Series Universal Smart Enclosure lend themselves to these very applications. They both provide unique and useful features to deal directly with the issues that may be faced by device designers in the industry. Available in a selection of colours and with either a solid or vented body, each is suitable to different environments and applications.
Wall mount is sometimes a necessity for smart electronic applications and is something that both ranges are capable of, with the 1500 series offering a unique and niche aspect over typical wall mounting enclosures.

1500 series Universal Smart Enclosure
Here are five common types of electronic device that our popular Room Sensor Enclosure range has been used for:
1: Environmental sensor
Sensors that monitor the environment around can vary in purpose; from potentially lifesaving gas monitoring equipment to HVAC air quality management. They play an important role in terms of IoT equipment in smart homes, factories and offices to provide a better quality of living or improved working conditions. Vented enclosures such as the Room Sensor and 1500 series allow for air to freely travel through them and reach the internal PCB mounted sensor components, through wireless or wired systems, this information is fed back to a cloud or centralised unit that can make decisions based on the readings taken. As these types of devices do not normally require any further human interaction after being installed, they are typically wall mounted in out of sight locations. CamdenBoss manufactures their room sensor enclosures in grey, black and white to help them blend into modern aesthetic environments.
2: Smart Thermostat
It is becoming fairly common knowledge now days with new home improvements, the integration of smart thermostats. A useful technology to assist in becoming smarter with the energy that we use, smart thermostats allow us to monitor our usage, custom set temperature levels and control when our heating comes on even if we are not at home! Something of a revelation, intelligent heating systems are saving UK households thousands of pounds a year, and dampening the effect that overuse is having on our environment. CamdenBoss Room sensors utilise a recessed face which is ideal for LCD screens and overlays commonly used in human interface equipment such as thermostats making it an ideal candidate for these types of applications. Size one in the range is capable of mounting directly to a UK single gang back box and features a 22mm cable entry knockout on the base plate, simplifying the assembly and keeping cables tucked away for an improved aesthetic.
3: Development board modules
Development boards and single board computers have graced the industry since their arrival. From home projects to full scale consumer electronics, development boards are capable of achieving great things. Our 1500 series universal smart enclosure has been integrated with PCB mounting pillars to match common boards such as the Raspberry Pi boards. If you are looking for an enclosure to house your dev board, that’s stylish, streamlined and ready for home application, our 1500 series may be the answer!
4: Access control / Biometric
Access control and biometric devices are useful electronic equipment for a whole variety of applications. From cordoned off areas to the public to staff entry in hospitals – access control implements security. Devices can utilise methods such as RFID to allow access or with more advanced systems, use biometric data such as hand or finger prints. Offering a unique 45 degree shape the 1500 series enclosure is capable at mounting at an angle to a surface or wall, making it ideal for applications such as these.
5: Motion sensor
Motion sensors take on many applications. Security installations are a common use for motion sense electronic components and can be used to trigger alarms, once a module has been activated. These types of sensors can be mounted into the corner of rooms, as they remain fairly dormant throughout the day, for example in an office environment. The 1500 series universal smart enclosure is capable of mounting directly into the corner of a room and flush with the ceiling if desired, making it a suitable enclosure for these types of applications.
