5mW Laser Pointer

This is beyond cool, a quick one today guys.

 

On eBay , I bought a green Laser Pointer (5mW) for about $6. This is the coolest (and by far the most powerful) laser diode I've experienced to date. I've always wanted to see the physical beam of a laser , even if it's very weak. During the daytime, I've already tested it with the downtown builtings and it's still very bright! Not powerful enough though to burn things (probably if I got a beaker holder and let it sit on a match or something for 20 minutes ish).

 

Just a quick thought for now guys. Better content to come later, Promise!

    I strongly recommend that you use laser goggles with your new toy.  Five miliwatts is enough to do some permanent eye damage.  The green wavelength emitted is near the eyes peak sensitivity, so you could do some serious damage if you are not careful.

     

    So be very careful with your laser, never point it at another person or animal, and be very aware of the reflected energy.

     

    I have worked with lasers for forty years, I know from which I speak.

    I appreciate the very kind words of advice. I'll definitely be taking your advice to heart. I've been wanting to play with (more than normal) lasers for a while. After being able to witness the beam first handed, I SWIFTLY dug out my safty glasses.
