An "all in one Bench Box"

Ok, here is the project i am looking to undertake, from scratch.

I am looking at designing, and building a box that does many jobs in one unit, modularly.

  • 2 Power supply. 1X(1-20v 0-8A precision 0.01V 0.01A) 1X(0-10V 0-2A precision 0.001V 0.001A)
  • Digital dummy load, 0-20V 0-8A.
  • Waveform generator capable of producing sine, triangular, and square wave outputs. (BASIC)
  • ESR meter.

So, what do you think? What should i add or change?

Should i Improve the accuracy of anything?

Or, what should what should i remove?

I am looking on designing this hole thing from start to finish.  Not just buying already made parts and putting them into one case.

Starting with the power supply, than, moving on to more modules as i get time.

I have made many of these projects before, in there basic formats, but am looking

to improve on there designs, and merge them all into one unit.

I figure there is no need to build a Multi Meter, into the mix, but i am looking for any ideas.

And all these "modules" will be isolated, in-case of overload, or, any kind of abuse.

I also am looking for anyone that might be interested in helping with this project in any way.

I think it will be a great open hardware project when everything is done.

One last note, i don't know much at all about building power supply's without transformers, and this project will require a very large one.

Any advise, on lighting this up, or a transformer that you may recommend any would be appreciated.

This is a long term project. Not rushing on it at all. Just a  side project.

    Ok, i can do that.

My over all goal is to have a one handed bench lab,.

Many times, i need my equipment in the field, and i don't want to have everything spread-out.

I would like to run one power cord, flip one switch and have 60% of my equipment up and running, to my specs.

I am going to put everything into a pelican case.   So the entire unit will be rugged, and waterproof.

Thank you for the thoughts, i will aim t-words the ESR meter more for now. Placing the PSU on hold.

I can't see any real benefit (and a lot of problems) in putting all this in one box.

Peter Oakes is running  a power supply design project on E14  - so you might want to see how that develops and concentrate on the other bits for now. He also means to add the dummy load feature.

Why not develop your ideas for the ESR meter or the waveform generator first - do you have any initial specs or applications in mind ?
