I found out we are having a Raspberry Pi BakeOff near by this Saturday! (Mar. 14th). This will be my first event and I am really looking forward to it. I found out only because of the weather we have been having here. I was checking to see if my grandson had school (No) and saw a piece on the tube about it. I am going to bring some of the kids from our summer projects with me to let them really see just what can be done with the RPi and their imagination.
I have an infinity light project I am working on that I would like to take to the BakeOff, but I don't know if I will finish in time. I have the cube built for the most part, but getting the lights, gears and motors to do what I want is being problematic. It looks pretty good as is (right now all the lights, while blinking and fading are static), but I want to convert it to a more 3D effect by mounting the lights on moving platforms at an angle to give the appearance of moving in space. And while using an Arduino would be OK, it wouldn't really fit the RPi theme of the program, nor do I know how to make it run with out a screen and keyboard yet, like I can do with the Arduino. I thought about using a small TFT screen that I have, but it only works on the Arduino (or it is suppose to, other than it lighting up I haven't been able to get it to work yet).
Plans for the summer program are coming together and we have a place. I haven't seen it yet but hope to real soon. I have a lot of work to do in there before we can start. Converting it into yet another computer lab, rounding up equipment and computers, etc. Last year I was able to build everything and buy most of my equipment with $5000. I was able to keep about half of what I had (but none of the networking stuff ) and if we can get a couple of grants and computer donations like we did last year I can add to it.
We got our Federal 501(C)3 papers off today. We are licensed in the state, but most organizations want that Federal paper work before they will work with you. We will see.
Well off to work on my projects!
