Hello all you tech people out there my first blog on here is going to be about an awesome service thats hit the Philadelphia area and has been going strong for about a year now. The company is Clear and the product is WiMax for both your home and your portable computers. Lets just say at first I am always a real skeptic when it comes to any new technologies, until I have used it myself and put it through the ringer theres no telling me anything. Well I first saw the internet ads as well as the TV ads for Clear about a year ago I guess and all in all it looked like a great idea to me. An internet signal blanket of 3G service over the whole Philadelphia area. What could be better and upon further inspection after finding out that you didn’t need to sign a contract and their unlimited package and it was only $30 a month for mobile, $40 for home and $50 for both, I signed up immediately and lets just say wasn’t getting my hopes up too high for speed and reliability. I mean we’ve heard it before with new technologies like Earthlink wireless it came it went and it dissapointed. The only thing that I thought was a bit expensive at first was that you could lease the hardware for $4.99 a month… but then after further inspection I saw you could also purchase it for a reasonable price and I wasn’t so upset. The purchase prices for their modems differ between mobile and home as well as 3g or now 4g speeds.”You would have to check they do change and have specials too.” But I promise they are not ridiculous. Everything was done online and I had my mobile usb modem in my hands within 2-3 days from order, they have very fast shipping, definately a plus. Now the setup, so easy a caveman could do it. Seriously plug and play and go, it’s just that simple. It comes with a usb install memcard with the Clear logo on it, you just plug it in, it installs then plug in your modem and its good to go. Simple as that. The important part now. the signal. I have one word for it, phenominal..I purposely drove from Quakertown to South Philly to right over the bridge in NJ as well as took it down 95 south. Even as we were driving my cohort was able to connect and surf with full 3g connectivity using the Clear wimax service. I liked it so much I even grabbed the Clear Spot which makes you into a wireless hotspot and used it with my iphone and HTC HD2 religiously. Anywhere in Philadelphia and in the surrounding area that I went I always had excellent connectivity with no complaints whatsoever. One last thing too. Very important, their customer service. This is another area I can not find one thing to complain about. Super friendly, super helpful easy to understand and do I dare say nice? Yes you heard it nice, and they actually care about their customers. I can vouch for this first hand as I was invited to attend a focus group in Philadelphia at the Clear office. Let me tell you the president of the company was there and taking notes, he even asked me since they are rolling out Clear in NYC what I would suggest they do to make the customer experiance better and what I would think would be something they might have missed that they could add to their service. The kicker though was I actually got a phone call about two weeks later following up on the focus group thanking me personaly for my input. The $100 and free food they gave out didn’t hurt either but just let me say this is one of those companies that I am actually happy to pay my hard earned cash to every month. All together I give Clear 5 out of 5 stars on all the above comments. They are a great company with a great product and they know how to treat their customers right.
