The universal all condition power supply project is to standardize and reduce weight that soldiers in the field carry. this blog is to help share ideas and development of the project.
the main aim is to reduce weight batteries may not weigh much but every gram and ounce counts multiply that over all devices and equipment and it builds a bigger picture, some bits of equipment will need a continuous power such as radios infra red strobes but weapon platforms only need power when raised so tilt switches for optics activation.
various types of equipment are used from night vision goggles to red dots, torches etc
possible features of the project:
magnetic couplings to transfer power
fully sealed wiring loom that is IP68 water proof compliant and dust/dirt protected
battery connector which is IP68 water proof compliant and dust/dirt protected
battery pack that incorporates a solar energy pack on the casing that constantly trickle charges as well as a motion charging system
compatibility kits to adapt current equipment
mounting brackets for extra batteries to be held in upright position for solar charging on patrol pack or plate carrier
the Magnetic couplings will need to be water proof but able to quick detach as will be embeded in the the finger tips of contact gloves with the little finger being the negative and middle finger being the positive terminals
The Wiring Loom will have a central network from the power pack to the helmet with a junction that splits in to 2 branches that go down either arm at the shoulders down to the contact gloves so the wiring loom will be ambidextrous for left and right handed shooters. the wiring loom will also have wires that go down to the boots where magnetic induction coils could possibly be mounted for motion activated charging with neoprene bushings to eliminate noise
The battery connector will be made of a light weight molded polymer and will also control the discharge rate and manage the charge voltage at a safe level for the battery. the connector will have a rubber seal so when the battery is pushed in to place it will click in to place and make a tight water proof seal to avoid shorts circuits due to water ingress.
the battery back still needs to be worked out
the compatibility kits will be a system for adapting current equipment like stick on pads for pistol grips to conduct the electricity to the item needing power with a range of wire lengths and different sided adapters that with fit battery size needed for each piece of equipment as all equipment varies
