I have an interest in all types of mobile robot and at the moment I am concentrating on all sorts of walking robots. I saw this Cute Hero walking robot at what seems a very reasonable price. I wasn't sure but it looked similar to the Penguin Bot Biped type of walking robot which costs about three times more. The Penguin bot uses four micro servos to achieve movement; two ankles and two hips. It was not possible to tell from the information provide on the Cute Hero walking robot if it used micro servos or not, but it seemed worth a go as four micro servos, plus a LiPo battery and the plastic casing would be value for money as far as I was concerned. It arrived today and this is what it does.
It is relatively easy to take apart. There are two visible screws and the cap just pops off (with a bit of a squeeze) to reveal two more. Easy disassembly.
A more detailed view of the insides.
I am surprised at how good this walking robot toy is, it has items of good value that would be worth the price, plus it is good fun in it's own right. I'm not sure it is suitable for small children due to smaller parts being easily picked off but a bit of glue would fix that. If Hacking an Existing product had been chosen as a future Project14 activity then this might have been a good candidate.
I haven't tried out the Bluetooth link yet, I'll leave that for another time.
