The Dutch high tech industry is expected to provide a 2011 production of 28 billion euros. In order to attain that value, the next ten years 40,000 knowledge workers needed. More than half is this true highly trained technicians. But commercial and logistical knowledge workers are in great demand. If no action is taken, the shortage of high tech engineers a block to economic growth.
Notable data came top in a recent research project by Jeroen Savelsbergh, in line with his minor personnel management for executives, at the Avans Hogeschool. He considered this a major part of the system industry companies who have organized themselves in the High Tech Systems Platform.
Outflow increases
Thirty percent of current employees are older than fifty years. The coming years will therefore increase outflow through retirement. This creates a need for inflow of about 40,000 new engineers over the next ten years. This is almost an impossible task as the outflow from the Dutch technology education does not improve. For all occupations rose in the high tech industry of secondary-education level required for HBO / WO level. These data illustrate how important it is that the government continues to invest in technological education and research. Lars Wormgoor Thales Netherlands recognizes this need: "Thales Netherlands is the ninth spot of R & D spending in the Netherlands and is the largest industrial employer east of the river. More than 60 percent of our employees is higher vocational or university education."
Strong recovery
The high tech industry consists of companies in the manufacturing industry with a very high added value to their customers and most of their export products. These are companies like ASML, Bosch Rexroth, Thales and Vanderlande Industries. This sector has recovered strongly from the recession. Thanks to continued strong emphasis on developing new products and services the industry successful in obtaining export orders from emerging economies. Revenues for many companies back to level. The vroegcylische companies like ASML have plenty of jobs again.Lucas van Grinsven ASML: "In the Netherlands there are currently over 500 vacancies for permanent and flexible staff.
