Having become a little behind on the four week Open2Study Mobile Robot MOOC that I signed up near the beginning of November 2018 I decided to put some extra effort in and get ti finished.
I didn't quite manage to get 100% in every assessment as I couldn't bring myself to put the designer's test sequencing before safety, so even though I took the test three times I just kept getting one question wrong. Still, passed well enough to obtain my free downloadable certificate at some time in the near future.
The course was fun, especially in the sensing and control modules although there was little that I did not know. This is probably more suitable for anyone who has not undertaken any activity related to mobile robots or even robots, or possibly engineering as a whole. It was interesting to see how the MOOC was implemented. Essentially it is a sequence of short (about 5 minutes each) head and shoulder videos with a few additional demonstrations and images, with a relatively simplistic question after each unit within a module, following by an end of module assessment of 10 similar questions. Quite well put together with good presentation software. There were some short delays when answering questions but I assume this is because it was communicating back and forth with the Cloud somewhere, maybe Australia.
Apparently there were nearly 900 people following this MOOC at this time. You could interact with other particiapnts if you wanted to, but I didn't. If you were interested in taking this MOOC I'm not sure when it will run again as the current version still has a few days left. It is all completely automated so I should think it will be relatively soon.
