going insane

I have been racking my brain over the Element14 Easter egg badge. The Title of the badge is gnu overhead so I'm thinking it's got to be something with some type of gnu(free software) cloud based setup and have been searching and searching. unfortunately the only thing that continues to come up is the essentials mcu ii module and im not getting anywhere with that. really wondering what Element14 considers an Easter egg so I would have some type of clue as to what I am looking for.

I felt a little unsure if I should be giving clues, but this thread now pretty much just gives you the answer. It was only after finding it the hard way that I discovered you could just Google the badge…

I see a few people have found it now. It took me a while. It's certainly not my place to give you any big clues, but here are a few tiny hints. The GNU is important but it isn't the same GNU you're thinking…

yep, still driving me insane. just not figuring out what gnu is suppose to mean here and im sure that it would give it away where the easter egg is, but man it is aggravating. I've searched and searched…

Unless you are already familiar with the books, this one can be particularly challenging, it was for me.  Luckily this thready already has enough clues to get to the bottom of this.  This one is particularly important:  "The GNU is important but it isn't the same GNU you're thinking of."

I like this Easter Egg and it has introduced me to something that I would probably never have known about otherwise.

Thanks for the sanity check, it took me about 4 hours total of research to get this one and I have not read the books yet.

On it's own, a pic of a ring wouldn't mean much. But once you read up about the Hobbit, then the ring becomes clear.

Yes but when you wear the ring you disappear from view ... so that clue is missing.

I've found a few others without the use of developer options.

Although I'm not sure if that is the right page or not.

Perhaps I'll message cstanton and we'll see.

yeah unfortunately I understand that its about the clacks but sadly enough I still haven't found the actual easter egg itself, but really not to worried about it. Once I realized it was about some set of books I had never heard of before (and would never read) I kind of lost the last thread of fun looking for it and the stress of it. Really just made it not worth it. No offense to whomever reads these books and loves them its just fantasy fiction is not my thing I guess.

Have you seen (or read) 'Ready Player One'? If you have not, it is worth seeing. Nice movie, and has lots of easter egg related stuff!  It is not related to this badge so it won't help there, it is just a nice distraction this situation reminded me of.

A good book and a good (but quite different) film. I must admit when cstanton told me that I was the only one that had spotted the badge and had contacted him about the easter egg, I felt like Parzival playing Joust  on my own and wondering who was getting closer. image

I'm not sure what you were expecting of an Easter Egg added by a web developer. Of course it's going to be geeky, obscure and obscured. That's the point!
