How to build a Cell Phone

I am having a problem with my project as I struggling to build a dialer or a DIY Cell Phone. The reason why I am trying to build my own dialer is because I am trying to continue with my project as cheap as possible. PLEASE HELP..............................................

Help? what have you built or designed so far? And what are your cost constraints. Just a note: building one cell phone is great as a learning process, but cannot be done less than a typical cell phone…

I think the gsm shields are tested and fcc compliant, you need to provide a sim card from a cellular company. As I said, it's a novelty. Mike

I was just thinking that unless you used pre-made and compliant parts, the testing required to pass FCC regulations would stop it being cheap.

I'm all for investigating and learning but really a cellphone is less that $25 even in NZ (assuming you want a new one), so why not investigate integrating with the phone.

I went to as session on building a cell phone at OSCON one year. It was interesting, but mostly a novelty.

It was pretty much an arduino with a keypad, display, and GSM shield.

Part of my motivation for making the phone -- and helping others to do the same -- is the fact that while cellphones are ubiquitous in our society, most of us have little idea what they're made of or how they work. In fact, you can make a cellphone in much the same way you'd make anything else: find the right parts, figure out how to connect them together, and try to do it in a way that's attractive and robust. Because of the ubiquity of cellphones, there are companies making the components they're made of; with some digging, I was able to find versions of these parts that are possible to buy in small quantities and that are possible to assemble by hand. This wasn't necessarily easy, but it's a very different problem than trying to learn the physics needed to understand how a cellphone tower works.
The words cheap did not motivate this person! But challenging does because he found the correct parts designed by the same companies.
I am not discouraging you, but hope you understand a clear reason to try.
