Just finished a tough road test

Well, I've finally finished my RTM3004 Road Test! Rohde & Schwarz Oscilloscope Kit RTM3K-COM4 - Review

It was a amazing to be selected for it and I'm really grateful to E14 and Rohde & Schwarz. I felt that such an impressive piece of test equipment deserved a good road test and I hope that's what I managed. I always feel that if I've committed to a Road Test then I really want to get it done to the best of my ability and on time. I'm amazed when I see people who it seems don't feel that it's a 2-way deal. I've seen a few token attempts and well overdue road tests. That's just not on.

You probably can't tell, but well over 100 hours of work went into it. You probably see a few screenshots, a bit of text and a 30 minute video but a lot goes into that. I had to decide how I'd cover each piece, find my way around the 'scope so it worked as I was expecting. Then I had to do it again and record it with screenshots. I repeated this for each section.

I planned to do the overview video at the end when I was most familiar with the 'scope's features, so each experiment had to be set up again. I tried to keep consistent lighting between sections. The odd one was out of focus as I thought I'd focused on the screen but it had focused on the reflection on the screen! Time to do it again. Then there was video editing.

Anyway, it was a fair bit more work that it looks but it was totally worth it. I hope everyone gets something out of it.

Thanks. That means a lot coming from you. Your recent PFC1500 road test was the "gold standard" I had in mind as I did it. Not sure I quite managed that, but I tried.

Well done for finishing the review, they can become very time consuming, but also provide great learning opportunities.

    Kind regards

I wouldn't worry about it in the end.

I think at-least for such a complex road-test the timeline should have been a bit longer. Maybe 3 months or 4??

Nevertheless I am enjoying every bit of it. Its larger than life road-test. image

    Cheers

I don't know, after reading yours, I think I've got to up my game : ) It was interesting to read, I'm looking forward to going through it again and deeply learning about the RTM3004. I get the feeling the touchscreen vastly improves productivity, so it was good to learn about your experiences with it. Also it is really great such extremely quiet instruments are becoming possible.
