Ok, so I had ordered a bunch of the 2 pin RGB auto fading LEDs for a lighting project I am trying to figure out.
I ordered these:
in 5mm slow-fast fade.
(as a side note I also ordered some 5mm warm white and I really like those)
so the auto fading ones do have a reset in them.
what that means is when power is disconnected for ANY length of time it resets the fade color.
The ones I have tried all start with blue color.
What that means is that they are not PWM dimmable.
They simply stay in their start color and will not fade when dimmed.
I am slightly disappointed by this because I was hoping to use them with a few TLC5940 chips that I got as well,
But I have a mess of 595 shift registers I will use instead.
I will use the 5940 on those warm white LEDs instead.
I just wanted to put it out there in case any one else was hoping to use these and have them in a PWM circuit they will not work.
I also wanted to use them for a random look but because they reset when the power is disconnected they actually sync up pretty well, not exactly, but very close.
so I think what I am going to do is use them on independent channels and have them turn on at random intervals between 0 and 3000ms I think that will sufficiently randomize them.
