Recently there have been some blogs about the different tools that various Element14 members own and use so I decided to display my set of spanners and sockets that I have gathered over my lifetime. The ones I like the most are the ones I purchased most recently, which are slim, small and shiny. I bought a set for my son and decided they were so nice I had to have a set for myself. Then there is my earlier set of very small spanners, the smallest set that I could find, which I purchased when I retired as I knew I was going to be using a lot of M2.5, M3 and M4 nuts and bolts in the small robots I was building. I have some so small I have never seen a nut that would fit them (3.2 mm). Other than that I have my standard set of car spanners that went everywhere in my car but which I rarely used. These are AF sizes so not that much use in modern metric cars. I also have my larger set of AF and metric socket set. I bought these which I bought my first car thinking that I would be some sort of car mechanic genius. Turns out I wasn't and it has always been a mystery to me that I know how a car works but I seem incapable of taking it apart and fixing it. Nowadays I buy a car and when it goes wrong I just buy another one. Cuts out on all the garage malarkey. At the moment I don't even have a car - I just drive my wife's.
