New Beginnings For a New Year

     First off, I want to thank ANYONE who actually reads this blog, as it is the first official blog that I’ve ever posted. Even if no one ever reads this, it is more an exercise for me as well as anybody else I suppose. I typically seem to be the guy that’s at least five years or so behind the times when it comes to internet activities but anyhoo I am attempting this whole blogging thing for several reasons.
  1. To build friendships and networks with the engineering community.
  2. To gain priceless insight into the field and interests that I have developed.
  3. To see the awesomness that so many of the people out there can create and to, hopefully sometime in the near future, post my own ideas and gain crucial feedback from some of the best and brightest out there.
              I suppose that a little background might help to build some support but nothing too boring or bland though…Wouldn’t want to lose your attention already. I Live in Florida with my wife and crazy little beagle (That’s him sleeping in the pic on my page). We have a daughter on the way soon so that is very exciting and sort of scary at the same time.
               I was working in a manufacturing plant for the past decade or so and just got tired of the work I was doing (it had nothing to do with building anything cool or high tech). I started to really do some deep introspection as to what I wanted to do for the rest of my life and after taking a professional-style personality test; I decided that I wanted to get into the electrical engineering field.
               I am only in the first years of my degree, and having to take all these intense and intimidating math courses is kinda scary, but I know that this sort of a lifelong dream come true for me. After looking back I’ve always held an interest in designing and building things and I have a few ideas, not quite ready to let the kitties out of the bag quite yet, that I’m toying around with and hope to present to you all someday.
              Like I said, I live in Florida and haven’t decided on where to transfer after I get my A.S., so if any of you have any thoughts or suggestions on good electrical engineering programs here in the sunshine state I would love to hear from you. If you want to let me know about your own experiences with going through college or experiences in the electrical engineering or engineering fields in general, feel free to drop some comments.
              I look forward to being a part of the Element 14 community and hope we can all do our best together to make the world a better place for everyone.
Sincerely;
Digital Dave77

    Thanks for the encouragement DAB. BTW congratulations on being chosen as Member of the Month. I appreciate your imput and I'm sure your expertise will be of great help as I look forward to picking your brain in the future.
    I try to live by the motto that "if you aim at nothing, you will hit it every time." I truly don't want to be that guy you see who's just doing what he does because he has to ...if you know what I mean. I'd hate to look back at my life in 20 or so years from now, with a heavy burden of regret weighing me down.
    Thanks again;

    Hi Dave,

    I congratulate you for taking control of your life and pursuing your interests.  I began my career with a 2 year technical degree in electronics and then spent seven years going to college part time to get my BS in Computer Engineering.  It is hard to do, especially if you have a wife and family, but I always viewed it as a test of my determination.

    If you need help, just let me known.  My scholastic skills may be rusty, but my mind has been where few people have dared to look.

    I have found that as long as you keep learning, you can continue to grow your skills way beyond what a college degree indicates, but you need those little pieces of paper to get the opportunity to prove it.

    So I wish you good luck and assure you that you are not alone, nor the first to take this road.

    Keep your focus, spend time with the family and the dog and just do the best you can.  Persistance can pay off.

    DAB
