New video for Datamate Crimping

Hi all,

Thank-you to all of you who voted for us in the e-legacy awards last month - unfortunately, we didn't win this time around, but it was a privilege for us to be able to give out an award and be nominated in the same awards.

Now, for those of you familiar with our Datamate range, you might be aware that crimping afore-mentioned Datamate is not 100% intuitive the first time you are faced with it.  So, to help all you novices, Harwin have commissioned a little animation that should help with this situation - enjoy...

I hope you found that useful!  We aim to expand on this with other similar videos in the future - if you have any feedback for us, do please let me know, I'd love to hear from you.

That's all for now!

    Hi DAB,

Thanks for the feedback!  I do believe that getting the crimp right is overlooked in a number of cases, and most of our customer issues with this product have been resolved with a bit of training.  It seems the hardest part on this particular product is actually the location of the completed crimp into the housing.  By far the biggest mistake is normally not making sure that the contact has gone past the internal bump in the moulding - so when force is applied to the rear of the contact, the internal bump is stripped out.  Et voila, the crimp no longer retains in the mould, and you then have to remove all the contacts already assembled and replace the mould!

Hopefully we can help with better practice with these types of training videos.

    Thanks!

    Hi Wendy,

I like the video and the emphasis on making good connections.  When reviewing maintenance records, the US armed forces found the nearly 50% of all equipment failures were due to the wires, cables and connectors used to connect system components together.  So while most people take the connections for granted, they are one of the most likely places to check when testing new equipment.

When we built one of our systems, we used spare wires on the cables to do a continuity check during power up.  Just this simple check verified that all of the parts were properly connected, thereby simplifying problems to the actual components, not the cabling.  This approached saved the user a lot of maintenance time.

So I am glad that someone is trying to get the word out on making sure that your connections are correct.  More than one system has literally crashed because of one bad wire or loose connection.

    Thanks,

    DAB
