ON Semiconductor IoT Workshop

23 Jun 2018

I recently attended the ON Semiconductor IOT Hands On Workshop organized by Arrow Europe in Dortmund. This is a short update on the event and the IOT kit.

The workshop was very well organized. I decided learn something new and it was worth it.

The Agenda of the workshop

image

Every developer received a full range of ON Semiconductor IoT Board and peripherals. The extra boards and motors were also given away to the developers which is quite a nice gesture on part of Arrow.

Hands-On Workshop Details

What we did:

  • Install and use ON-Semi IDK which is Eclipse based and WICED Studio
  • Hello World on LCD
  • Interfacing the touch sensor and PIR sensor
  • Interfacing the touch sensor and PIR sensor via the cypress WIFI module to the IBM Watson Cloud and see the data in real-time graph on the cloud as you moved your fingers on the touch pad.

We didn't do

  • the DC motor interface,
  • led  and stepper motor interface but I got the code for them.

They use Mbed so thats quite nice as it has an ARM processor too.

In conclusion, I learnt something new and utilized my time completely. In future, I aim to write short blogs about the sensors interfaced to the IOT Board.

Nice array of components. Did the workshop go over each one and explain its capabilities? DAB

I have found that the people who do these seminars tend to lighten their luggage before they go home. So if they had kits for people who did not show up, all you need to do is ask if you can have one of the spare kits for a friend. The company has already written the kits off, so the presenters usually have no problem sharing.

It looks like it was a good seminar. I look forward to your blogs on the sensors.

I am planning to do use them for a design challenge and also will write a blog about it here later.

They were quite generous with the kits since many people cancelled in the last moment. So I got like 4 steppers, 4 dc motors n drivers and lot of other stuff.

I guess they didn't want to take it back with them so they gave all the sensors away.
