Well RPi day has come and gone. I was able to attend a Raspberry Pi BakeOff near here with some of my students from last year. I should have brought my BrickPi bot because I think I could have won it! I met a lot of great folks and hopefully made some contacts. We will see. I did meet some people wanting to set up camps like mine and I told them I was willing to help anyway I could.
Radioshack is going out of business and I have been picking up some really good deals. I found two MakeBlock Ultimate Robot Kits that normally sell for $399 and got them for $108! They come complete with their own version of Arduino Uno (Orion) that has 8 RJ25 ports for sensors and two motor ports for wiring ease. It also come with a dual Bluetooth module as well as a line follower, ultrasonic, and sound sensor, RGB Strip and motor driver modules. This kit can make 10 bots with the plans on-line and is made from aluminum which is probably why it cost so much! Looking at their site they have a lot of other kits (how about their a 3D printer kit!) and add-on Raspberry Pi Shield!
I looked at the site of our next summer project and while it isn't as big as our last one it will do. We are also setting up a site at a local college for the 4H group in our area to introduce them to our program.
It looks like I have a very busy summer lined up! Now if I only got paid for this.......
