RoboPanthers Have a Blast Off!
Today, October 21, 2013 marks the first meeting and workshop of the St Louise de Marillac School RoboPanthers robotics club with 17 attendees, located in the village of La Grange Park, Illinois. Thanks to the parish, the school and a handful of volunteers the RoboPanthers met for the first time today from 3:30 to 5:00 PM and will continue to meet for the next 5 Mondays.
The RoboPanthers will be exploring the world of robotics by first looking into the Scratch language, followed by working with the LEGO WeDo Construction Kit. Later, as the intrepid young engineers become more familiar with this subject matter they will move on to the LEGO Mindstorms kit.
The program is structured so that the students first get to build and program a simple robot, given instructions on how to do so. As they begin to understand the inner workings on how the robot works they will be allowed to design their own control programs. After that is mastered the students will move to using prepared control programs, but allowing them to design and build their own robot. And finally when they reach an advanced level, they’ll be guided and encouraged to design and build their own robot and control software.
