Studying : Introduction to Robotics MOOC

2 Jan 2019

Recently received an email from Future Learn about the Begin Robotics MOOC that I have signed up for, starting on 7th Jan'19. Only a few days now before the fun begins. I

ll get to play with ERIC the robot - whatever that is - a simulation I think. I'd like to say that I'm ready, but I'm not as I'm still exiting Christmas.

Sounds like you have already followed this MOOC. Thanks for the link. ERIC looked fun, maybe I'll try 3D printing my own ERIC if the parts are available to download somewhere. I've always wanted to make…

Gene, I hadn't thought of getting ideas for future robots but that's a good idea. Dave Ingles gave me the link to the video for ERIC which looked eminently buildable. Dubbie

On the first run of the MOOC there was some talk about making ERIC available to purchase however not sure if that ever happened or not.

    Hope you enjoy the course.

I've always wanted to make two wheeled mobile robot and this design avoids all the balancing stuff. It just has the centre of gravity below the axle. I might have to make my own controller though if the University doesn't sell their own PCBs.

Yes, I did that particular MOOC a while ago.

Reading Uni also had a design for a self-balancing 'grimblebot'

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDbRQ8Id4iY

The controller aspect may have been an issue with Reading marketing the ERIC for more general use, especially if it was designed to be programmed via external programming hardware via ICSP header as opposed to something more like the Arduino IDE over USB.
