Unboxing the Logitech C920 HD Pro Webcam
Hi everyone. I recently purchased the Logitech c920 HD Pro Webcam for a project and I thought it would be nice to share this experience.
The Logitech c920 HD Pro Webcam is a 15 MP USB webcam that is capable of Full HD 1080p and comes equipt with 20-step autofocus and stereo microphones. This webcam features native H.264 video compression, automatic low-light correction, and HD glass lens with tuned autofocus. It is USB 2.0 certified and USB 3.0 ready.
There appears to be some dust on the inside of the package.
The stats for this webcam are listed in the column on the right side.
First layer of defense.

Normal documentation
This document contains some helpful illustrations of mounting options.
Okay. Now on to the main course. What's this? There's dust particles on the camera. Hmmm
With the webcam freed of it's imprisonment in the package, we can get a better look.
The camera is a bit heavier than expected. It weighs about the same as a standard Android Smartphone. (sorry Apple)
This shot is actually upside down. This is the mount at point of articulation when the webcam's lens is tilted upward.
And in this photo, the mount when the webcam is tilted downward. It is very solid and remains in position when adjusted.
The mount folds out and can be adjusted to fit most screens.
There is a thin layer of silicone on the surfaces to further stabilize the mount.
When the mount is in the closed position, the webcam can be placed on a desktop, table, or other horizontal surface.
On the bottom surface of the mount is a threaded socket for mounting to a standard camera tripod. On the topside of the mount, there are some scratches that occured during removal of the protective factory shrink-wrapped plastic. The finish of the plastic mount and webcam case scratch fairly easy.
Here is the forward view when then webcam is pointed downward as far as it can go.
And here the webcam is looking up. There is a microphone on each side of the lense for recording audio in stereo.
According to this label, the webcam is powered by 5V 500 mA.
The USB plug is a slim design that should not conflict with other plugs in adjacent USB ports.
Summary
The Logitech c920 HD Pro Webcam appears to be a well designed product. It is Windows and iOS compatible, but I will be testing it for compatibility with Linux.
I will post some samples of video and image captures with this Logitech webcam in comparison with another webcam.
Thanks for stopping by.
