Hi Guys.
It's been an action-packed couple of weeks. I attended a conference in New York where I got to hang out with the ever-amazing GardenState, met with our team in Chicago to discuss our plans for the second half, took a few days to go camping with friends in Santa Barbara, then went up to Silicon Valley to attend the Wearable Technologies conference where I got to see some truly mind-bending stuff. I love meeting electronic engineers doing incredible things with their talent, and the past few weeks have given me a nice amount of it.
I'm back home now, and have been going through a bunch of photos. Some of these are pictures of amazing scientists like Neil deGrasse Tyson, or engineers like Ben Heck and Jeri Ellsworth. Some are images of my kids discovering the love of old-school geek culture. Some are of my own intrepid forays into the world of making.
What images capture your love of engineering?
Post them as comments below! I can't wait to see them.
Seeing Neil deGrasse Tyson in LA this year. My kids look up to him like he's Iron Man.
A father teaching his son to solder, MakerFaire 2010.
Hanging out with ciorga in Los Angeles last year. I learn so much from him that includes and goes beyond engineering.
No engineer should be without a BeagleBone Black! Or pals like johnbeetem and fustini. Design West 2013
An original tape pulley from Alan Turing's Colossus machine used at Bletchley Park. Computer History Museum, Silicon Valley.
Connecting to my new BeagleBone Black, around 2014. I love how new technology can revive old technology like my crappy Dell.
Teaching my kids how to build a working battery with lemons and LEDs in 2010.
A rare glimpse into a Prius battery, 2012.
Mission control at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Where they controlled the Mars Rovers!
Teaching basic circuits through breadboarding, 2011. Does it get more beautiful than this?
Fixing a sick synthesizer, 2013. I'd owned it since 1997 but had never had the confidence to take it apart before.
One of the coolest things about engineers is that they are always learning! vandana teaching a workshop in San Jose last year.
Rahm holding up his first soldering job in 2013-- an Adafruit persistence-of-vision kit. (OK, maybe I helped a little.)
Building a radio by hand! My newest project.
