Whether you agree with the concept of global warming or not we all know that mother nature can throw some challenging weather our way. We all discuss the weather when we are either too hot or too cold and sometimes simply to break the ice when starting or joining a conversation, as it’s the one thing that we all have to deal with and everyone has an opinion on it. The thing is as human beings we are adaptable and can make sensible choices on whether we head out or not, when the temperature drops or rises to uncomfortable levels, and as such can handle most things thrown our way.
The same however cannot be said about electronics devices that need to continue to function in these harsh conditions and as such they need to use products offering a high degree of protection. As not all components will face the outside temperatures they can be controlled and protected within an enclosure however finding something to house the electronics within can be as challenging as the weather the unit is likely to face.
The new Environmental Case System (ECS) range of robust field housings from Phoenix Contact are an ideal solution for harsh indoor and outdoor applications. The ECS system offers high degrees of protection up to IP69K in accordance with ISO 20653 and is rated from -40 to +100 degrees centigrade. The case is made of high grade materials offering reliable protection against the effects of UV radiation. The optional ventilation system, using an integral pressure mounted membrane, ensures that moisture doesn’t get trapped within the enclosure meaning your electronics device will continue to function as the temperatures rise.
The range includes a choice of 4 different face plates with either snap-in or torque screw locking and integral wall mounting points are built into the enclosure, there’s also an optional pole mounting kit available if you prefer. Printed circuit board (PCB) retention safety clips can be utilised to help prevent the PCB from falling out when the faceplate is disconnected from the enclosure.
