"I want us all to think about new and creative ways to engage young people in science and engineering, whether it's science festivals, robotics competitions, fairs that encourage young people to create and build and invent—to be makers of things, not just consumers of things." in saying that United States President Barack Obama challenged his administration to capture the imagination of the America's youth and encourage them to be the next Limor Fried, Eben Upton or Gert Van Loo of the world. In an effort to support this initiative the White House will be hosting a Google+ Hangout on Thursday March 28th at 3:00pm EST. This hangout will feature Tom Kalil facilitating a dicussion of promoting the maker community with a panel including:

- Tara Tiger Brown, Los Angeles Makerspace
- Super Awesome Sylvia, Super Awesome Maker Show
- Saul Griffith, Co-Founder, Otherlab
- Venkatesh Prasad, Ford
