Wireless Power Transfer Demo Kit

For one of my courses this year we have to design a demo/educational kit demonstrating an electromagnetic phenomenon, our group has chosen Wireless Power transfer.

Our current idea is to design a kit with two WPT antennas on a slider to demonstrate the effect of distance on the efficiency of the coils, and to have the coils interchangeable. The biggest problem we are currently facing is finding examples online of simple WPT systems proving numerical theory, we either find basic wound coil systems on the likes of instructables, or full thesis on designing an complex WPT system. I would like to ask if anyone knows of a relatively simple WPT paper (or website) which we could use as a starting point?

Here is a quick screenshot from Fusion 360 on Android of the initial design for the kit.image

Duncan, A quick search revealed a few interesting articles. I am not sure if you have come across these yet, but here is what I found: https://arxiv.org/pdf/1509.00940.pdf (if nothing else, the 350 references…

Complicated topic. Many techniques are used to maximize coupling and minimize eddy current losses. All of them are pretty hairy to calculate. Even simple coils have complex phenomena going on. Unless one coil can slide inside the other, the coils are usually flat to get the closest coupling. You could use your measurement system to characterize performance and coupling efficiencies of different coil geometries. If you make all coils have the same inductance it will tell you which geometry is better and you can work on explaining why. You can calculate flat (spiral) coil inductance with simple calculators - there are many on-line:

    Duncan,
