Training for PSoC 4 Bluetooth Low Energy

Introduction

PSoCRegistered 4 BLE is an easy-to-use, ARMRegistered CortexTm-M0 based, single-chip solution which integrates programmable analog front ends, programmable digital peripherals, CapSenseRegistered technology for touch-sensing, and a BluetoothRegistered LE (Low Energy) or Bluetooth Smart radio.

This is the opening from the cover letter for the course. Let me say they made the chip easy to use! All configuration of BLE is GUI under PSoC Creator IDE 3.1. The download is down before the class onto your own laptop. Let me warn you to get a beefy laptop since the code can chew a lot of CPU cycles. I bought an older Celeron Intel Dual Core and could not run the builds without a few extra minutes. To register for the workshop was a problem since their website had a loop in webpages. They are now fixed. Here is a list of what was included in CY8CKIT-042 BLE Bluetooth Low Energy Pioneer Kit:

  • PSoC board with attached BLE daughter board
  • Extra BLE daughter board in black(not used)
  • USB Cypress BLE card that allows diagnosing the interface
  • Mini to USB cable. Note this is not a Micro!
  • 1 Lithium battery for running PSoC remotely(not used)

The labs always started with a template to cut down on time. We had a step by step guide to configure each lab with pictures. The instructor had USB sticks to copy lab exercises to your laptop. Lectures were followed with a lab to reinforce the learning. A total of 4 labs were covered. With breaks and lunch the class lasted from 9:00 am till 3:00 pm. Time for questions was good. I would highly recommend taking the class. The only downside if any was some of the lectures were biased to their equipment. I learned more in this workshop than the 1 hour Microchip webinar because of the hands on with real kit.

I would suggest download the software and run a build for a demo or two to see. I did not check other's for what they had.

Do you know if any other participants were using a Windows virtual machine and if that was causing problems?

I'm on Mac, so no PSoC Creator support without a VM ...
